What if targeted investments in housing and transit flowed toward BIPOC communities to build prosperity and inclusivity? The Accelerated Wealth and Transit Development (AWTD) project in Los Angeles aims to do exactly that. Led by Anderson Baker Architects, the AWTD project seeks to convert existing single-family homes, owned by minority communities, into multifamily properties surrounding key Metro stations. This initiative will also ensure safer, more accessible pedestrian environments. Combating historical redlining practices, these developments are expected to foster generational wealth and boost local economies for marginalized communities. Aligning with future goals like the 2028 Olympic Games, the project is expected to increase transit ridership by 400,000 passengers annually.
