As Austin’s new transit initiative, Project Connect, progresses, it faces the challenge of potential displacement. To address rising property values and rents, Austin voters approved “Prop A,” allocating $300 million to assist those affected by development spurred by Project Connect. This initiative is led by the Catalyst Group, 30 community members who ensure accountability. Predominantly people of color from Austin’s Eastern Crescent, most are below the city’s median income and rely on public transit. The funds will also support building affordable housing along the new transit routes over the project’s 13-year timeline.
