The nonprofit TransitCenter showcases a pilot program that created a dedicated bus and bike lane on a busy corridor between Boston’s Rossendale Village and Forest Hills. Initiated by a community group, the new lane benefits MBTA buses, school buses, and cyclists and significantly reduced commute times by replacing a parking lane for four hours each morning. The initiative capitalized on data showing that bus riders comprise 60 percent of morning peak commuters. The program has received positive community feedback, improves traffic flow, and promotes equity and economic mobility.
