The motto of MidPen Housing … Building Communities. Changing Lives… expresses how affordable and transit-accessible housing can support the lives of senior citizens, people with disabilities, and low-income individuals and families. In 2016, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), San Francisco’s MPO, recognized the efforts of non-profit developers Mid-Penn Housing and Eden Housing, each working to address high rents and long commutes. MidPen built Donner Lofts, located near seven bus routes, VTA light rail, and a planned BART station. Eden Housing developed projects such as Ford Road Plaza and Monterey Villa in San Jose, and Weinreb Place in Hayward, each near public transportation.
