What Makes a Street Walkable?

As anyone walking along a busy roadway knows, just adding sidewalks doesn’t make a street walkable. According to Jeff Speck, author of Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time, four factors should be considered when walkable streets—is the pedestrian environment useful, safe, comfortable, and interesting?

Sounds about right for transit-friendly places in general, right?
