Washington Heights, Roseland and Pullman: Resident Perspectives on Vacant Lots near Transit

Learn about how Community Change Agents Sirena Smith, Jimmie Jones Jr., and others are working to identify and revive vacant lots near the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line CTA station and the Metra 95th Street/Chicago State University station in Chicago’s Washington Heights. Addressing vacant lots is an important part of Chicago’s equitable transit-oriented development (eTOD) agenda. Local input plays an essential role deciding how these spaces can best serve the community – projects that could support new affordable housing, sustainable green spaces, and healthy food for residents. The effort to identify vacant lots and their potential uses will continue through this summer as the Chicago Department of Planning and the Chicago Transit Authority accept public comments on the 95th Street Corridor Plan.
